Vickie Maponga-Mlilo entered this world on May 21.
Vickie pursued her passion for journalism, earning an Honours Degree in Journalism and Communication from the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU). Her academic journey also includes a Diploma in Journalism & Communication from CCOSA and a Diploma in Public Relations, Public Relations, Advertising, and Applied Communication from the Zimbabwe Institute of Management.
Embarking on a career in media, Vickie currently holds the prestigious position of news anchor at ZBC television (ZBCtv) and is the charismatic host of the talk show, “Another Chance.”
Personal Struggles and Mental Health
Vickie Maponga-Mlilo, beyond her professional triumphs, has been candid about her battles with mental health. Her journey involved grappling with despair, leading to three suicide attempts fueled by a sense of hopelessness. Vickie faced daunting challenges that permeated various aspects of her life, causing a significant blow to her self-esteem. Fortunately, she proactively sought and received treatment for clinical depression.
During a particularly challenging phase, Vickie endured the heart-wrenching loss of a child. This tragic event triggered profound devastation, plunging her into a state of depression and social withdrawal. The emotional toll, coupled with years of struggling to conceive, intensified her anxiety, ultimately culminating in a deep-seated depression.
Vickie Maponga-Mlilo’s life story is a testament to resilience, triumph, and the strength to confront personal demons. Her journey from the newsroom to battling mental health challenges is an inspiring narrative that transcends the screen.
