A Lifelong Quest for Knowledge
Uebert’s journey towards knowledge and education has been a continuous pursuit. He holds two university degrees in finance, a post-graduate degree in education from the University of Bolton, and a Master’s in Entrepreneurship from the University of Edinburgh.
Founding of Spirit Embassy Ministries
In 2007, Uebert Angel established Spirit Embassy Ministries in Manchester, England. This marked the beginning of a spiritual movement that would eventually touch the lives of countless individuals worldwide. In 2011, he took it a step further by launching Miracle TV, a television station that helped him spread his message even more extensively.
Prophetic Predictions and Extraordinary “Miracles”
Uebert Angel gained notoriety for his seemingly accurate predictions of events, including the deaths of prominent figures like Joseph Kabui, Michael Jackson, and Margaret Thatcher. He was also linked to claims of resurrecting 29 individuals, although these claims were met with scepticism. One of his most famous acts was the “miracle money,” where congregants saw their bank accounts mysteriously filled with money. This phenomenon initially took place in Botswana, where an estimated P2.4 million was raised, and was later replicated in South Africa.
However, the “miracle money” concept faced resistance in Zimbabwe. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor held a press conference with Angel and another prophet, Emmanuel Makandiwa, who also performed similar acts. Angel refuted allegations of creating money but stated that he and the other prophets were restoring funds that congregants had lost.
Angel faced criticism from women’s organizations in 2013 after reports of him allegedly inducing a woman into labour by placing his hands on her belly. The woman was subsequently taken to the hospital, where she gave birth to a boy and named him Uebert.
Presidential Envoy and Ambassador at Large

In a surprising turn of events, on March 17, 2021, Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed Uebert Angel as a Presidential Envoy and Ambassador at Large for Europe and the Americas, with the objective of exploring trade and investment opportunities. Remarkably, Angel declined to receive a salary for this prestigious appointment.
Diverse Business Ventures
Uebert Angel is actively involved in various business enterprises. Spirit Embassy Ltd, owned by Angel and his wife Beverly, is a registered company in the UK. In addition, Angel holds interests in several UK-registered companies, including Spirit Embassy Ministries Limited, Miracle Times TV Limited, Levi House Ltd, Coffee Island (Pvt) Limited, and Black Stallion Limited. Angel is also a stakeholder in Brits Money, a bank. Notably, he is overseeing the construction of the Harare Hippodrome, a 6,400-seater indoor conference facility, which is poised to become Zimbabwe’s largest of its kind. Furthermore, Angel is spearheading the development of the Beethoven Hotel, situated next to the Harare Hippodrome, featuring 40 executive rooms upon completion.
A Private Island and Legal Dispute
In January 2022, reports surfaced indicating that Uebert Angel was in the process of selling his private island located on Lake Victoria in East Africa, which was estimated to be worth US$4.7 million. Additionally, in December 2014, Angel faced accusations from Ndabazinengi Shava, who claimed he had been defrauded of US$300,000. Angel vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that the disputed vehicle belonged to Anderson Tagara, not Shava.
Allegations of Corruption and Asset Freeze
In February 2023, Uebert Angel’s reputation faced scrutiny when Al Jazeera released a trailer for a documentary implicating his involvement in corruption within Zimbabwe. The full documentary had yet to be released, but the allegations sent shockwaves through public opinion.
In March 2023, the Insurance and Pensions Commission (IPEC) initiated inquiries into insurance companies regarding Ewan Macmillan and Uebert Angel. This development followed the release of snippets from an Al Jazeera documentary that focused on corruption and embezzlement in Zimbabwe, although the full documentary had not been made public at that time.
The Al Jazeera documentary, titled “Gold Mafia,” alleged that Uebert Angel offered to utilize his diplomatic status to facilitate the laundering of millions of dollars through a gold-smuggling scheme. The exposé asserted that criminal networks exploited Western sanctions to smuggle significant quantities of gold and launder vast sums of money through a complex network of businesses and illicit payments. Undercover Al Jazeera reporters, posing as Chinese nationals seeking to launder over US$1 billion, engaged with Angel and his business partner, Rikki Doolan, who claimed they could assist in this endeavour.
Central to Angel’s purported involvement in gold-for-dirty money operations was Henrietta Rushwaya, president of the Zimbabwe Miners Association, who is also the niece of Emmerson Mnangagwa. Rushwaya allegedly assured Angel and the reporters during a phone call that smuggling 100kg of gold weekly would pose no difficulties. Doolan even offered to arrange a face-to-face meeting with Mnangagwa during the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow in 2021. The group also proposed aiding money laundering through property development near the tourist town of Victoria Falls.
In April 2023, individuals mentioned in the “Gold Mafia” documentary had their assets frozen by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, according to inside sources at the institution. The list included Uebert Angel, Ewan McMillan, Kamlesh Pattni, and Simon Rudland. Their assets would remain frozen until the Financial Intelligence Unit concluded its investigations.
