Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa is a prominent Zimbabwean politician and entrepreneur who currently serves as the Deputy Minister for Tourism in Zimbabwe. He is also the Member of Parliament for the Hunyani constituency. Notably, he is the nephew of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Tongai Mafidi was born in Zambia on 10 February 1978 but relocated to Zimbabwe at a young age. He began his education journey at Haig Park Primary School in Harare and later pursued his O Levels at Gokomere High School, a Catholic boarding school in Masvingo Province. He completed his secondary education at Prince Edward School, a government high school in Harare. To further his education, Mnangagwa attended Harare Polytechnic, where he earned a certificate in marketing. He also pursued a Bachelor of Science Honors degree in development studies at the Zimbabwe Open University.

Political Career

Mnangagwa’s political career commenced when he joined the ZANU–PF party at the age of 18. He quickly ascended through the party ranks, becoming the youth chairperson for the Tangwena District at the age of 20. Later, he moved to Harare South and joined the Leopold Takawira District as a committee member, eventually rising to the position of political commissar of the main board.

In 2018, Mnangagwa contested as ZANU–PF’s candidate for the House of Assembly in the general election, facing numerous opponents. He emerged victorious with a 39% plurality, defeating prominent opponents such as incumbent Shadreck Mashayamombe and Tichaona Saurombe. Subsequently, he was sworn into Parliament on 5 September 2018.

In the 2023 general election, he secured a seat in the newly established constituency of Hunyani.

Entrepreneurship and Business Interests

Beyond politics, Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa has made significant strides in the business world. He currently serves as the Executive Chairman of Terrymac Enterprises Pvt Ltd. His diverse business portfolio spans various industries, including Agriculture, Technology, Telecommunications, Media, Real Estate, FMCG, Construction, Entertainment, Finance, and Insurance.

Personal Life

Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa is a married man and resides in the Mabelreign suburb of Harare. He and his wife, Gwen Lee Dawn Mnangagwa, have six children.
