Early Life and Education

Born in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe, Rachel J faced the challenges of life early on, losing her parents and being raised by her grandmother, Gogo Phoeby, a peasant farmer in Gweru. This challenging upbringing instilled in her a sense of resilience and determination.

Rachel J completed high school at the age of 16 and furthered her education with a diploma at a local college. Her pursuit of knowledge took her to South Africa, where she earned a degree in Fashion and Interior Designing.

In 2016, Rachel J launched her music career with the debut gospel album, “Triumph,” dedicated to her grandmother. Venturing into various genres, she released singles and albums like “Makwikwi Reloaded,” “Njiva,” “Bada Boom,” “Ngoro,” “Hallelujah,” “Strong Black Man,” and “Fambai Mberi.”

Beyond music, Rachel J showcased her entrepreneurial flair by establishing an interior design company that served prominent personalities in Zimbabwe. Her business interests expanded into mining, transport, logistics, fruit and vegetables, fuel, luxury buses, and farming under Jarach Investments.


Rachel J faced controversies in 2019 and 2020, with allegations surrounding her lifestyle and connections with former Finance deputy minister Terence Mukupe. Reports also suggested involvement with South African-based cleric Shepherd Bushiri.

Mukupe accused Rachel J of infidelity, while Bushiri was alleged to have impregnated her. Rachel J’s family vehemently denied the claims, defending her character amidst a public dispute marked by accusations and counter-accusations.


Rachel J’s musical talent earned her recognition, receiving the Most Outstanding Beautiful Woman in Zimbabwe award at the Zimbabwe Models Awards in 2018. Additionally, her venture into authorship resulted in the biography “A Life of Sacrifice,” focusing on Zimbabwe’s president, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
