Advocacy and Notable Incidents

Championing youth rights and democratic principles, Mkwananzi encountered legal hurdles and faced multiple arrests. He spearheaded Tajamuka/Sesijikile, a coalition of youth organizations advocating for change through peaceful protests from 2016 to 2017. Amid allegations of financial impropriety, Mkwananzi stepped down from Tajamuka, amidst pressure from his peers. Although facing charges of incitement to public violence, Mkwananzi asserted his innocence, proclaiming exoneration from all accusations.

In August 2023, suspected state agents disrupted a press briefing shortly after Mkwananzi’s appointment as spokesperson for the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in an attempt to apprehend him.
