Poptain’s real name is Ameen Jaleel Yaseen Matanga. He was born on May 22, 1994, in Gweru, Zimbabwe, which makes him 29 years old as of 2023.

Poptain spent his early years in Gweru, where he began his primary education. Later, in 2004, he relocated to Harare. After completing his primary education, he pursued his high school studies at Majlisul Ulama Zimbabwe (Independent College Zimbabwe).

Although Poptain initially immersed himself in reggae and dancehall music as a fan, he never envisioned himself becoming a music sensation. However 2011, shortly after completing high school, he recorded his debut song. Initially known as Mad Arzlaan, his friend Nuddy Nice bestowed upon him the name “Poptain,” which he now carries proudly.
Despite crafting several hits within the ghetto, Poptain struggled to secure airplay opportunities from promoters. His breakthrough moment arrived when he joined forces with Allanah for the track “Fadza Mutengi,” which they performed on Nash TV. Surprisingly, “mutengi” had always been a part of his musical identity, but he had never imagined it as a song title until he encountered the beat. Poptain’s synergy with Allanah led to the creation of “Fadza Mutengi,” marking a turning point in his career.
Poptain’s music style draws heavy inspiration from Jamaican musician Mavado, whose distinctive approach serves as a wellspring for Poptain’s unique and captivating creations.

In June 2021, Poptain publicly acknowledged his romantic involvement with Anita Jaxson, a fellow musician. However, by April 2022, Poptain and Anita Jaxson disclosed that their relationship had been a facade, a strategic move to boost their careers. They confessed in separate interviews that their romance was fabricated and were both in separate relationships.
