Meet Merit Thoko Munzwembiri, a distinguished television personality and sports administrator, widely recognized for her impactful role as a sports journalist at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC). This biography sheds light on her educational achievements and illustrious career.

Education

Merit Munzwembiri boasts a robust academic background in sports administration and management. Her qualifications include an IOC Diploma in Management of Olympic Sport Organisations and other specialized courses in sports management. She has also engaged in the Advanced Sport Management Course, organized by the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC). Her academic credentials are:

  • Bachelor of Science Honours in Political Science from the University of Zimbabwe
  • Diploma in Management of Olympic Sport Organisations from the International Olympic Committee
  • Professional Diploma in Sustainable Community Development & Humanitarian Project Management from Training & Development International Trust

Career

Zimbabwe Olympic Committee

Merit Munzwembiri’s involvement with the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) has been significant. She served as a press attaché for Team Zimbabwe during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. In April 2021, she was elected to the ZOC board, securing 22 votes.

In September 2022, Munzwembiri was appointed as the chef de mission for the 2023 Beach Games in Bali, Indonesia. Additionally, she holds the role of chair for gender, equality, inclusivity, and diversity within the ZOC.

Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC)

In May 2024, Merit Munzwembiri was promoted to the acting Head of News and Current Affairs, succeeding Jackie Gwemende. Throughout her tenure at ZBC, she has undertaken various roles, showcasing her versatility and leadership:

  • Sports Reporter (March 2005 – October 2009)
  • Sport Editor (November 2009 – July 2015)
  • News Editor (July 2016 – July 2019)
  • Manager of ZBC News (July 2019 – Present)
