Mutasa’s impressive career spans his time as a player and chairman for Dynamos Football Club to his current pivotal role as the chairman of the ZIFA Normalisation Committee.

Early Involvement in Football

Lincoln Mutasa’s journey in football commenced in the rural areas of Zimbabwe. His passion for the sport grew when he moved to the United Kingdom, where he played football during his school years and with various local clubs. Upon his return to Zimbabwe, he joined the ranks of Dynamos Football Club as a right-back, marking the beginning of a significant chapter in his football career.

Playing and Leadership at Dynamos

From 1981 to 1984, Mutasa donned the Dynamos jersey, playing as a right-back. In his final year as a player, he also assumed the role of chairman, a position he held until 1987. Under his dual leadership, Dynamos celebrated numerous victories and made key investments, including establishing a sports shop on Julius Nyerere Way, acquiring a clubhouse near the ZIFA headquarters, and securing land in Waterfalls for a future stadium. A highlight of his tenure was facilitating Moses Chunga’s transfer to Belgium, marking the first time a player from independent Zimbabwe was exported to Europe.

Post-Dynamos Activities

After his influential period with Dynamos, Mutasa continued to engage with football at a social level, playing with Arcadia. In 2015, he made a notable attempt to become ZIFA’s vice-president but was narrowly defeated by Omega Sibanda.

ZIFA Normalisation Committee

In July 2023, FIFA appointed Lincoln Mutasa as the chairman of a four-member normalisation committee to oversee the operations of ZIFA for a one-year term. This appointment followed Zimbabwe’s reinstatement in international football. The committee, spearheaded by Mutasa, includes notable figures such as former Mighty Warriors player and coach Rosemary Mugadza, ex-Highlanders player Sikhumbuzo Ndebele, and lawyer Nyasha Sanyamandwe.
