Controversies: A Closer Look

The Rape Allegation

In November 2020, Khaliphani Phugeni faced severe allegations of rape. He stood before a magistrate, accused of raping a minor between June and November 2018 in Emhlangeni and Magwegwe West, Bulawayo. Phugeni maintained his innocence, suggesting the charges might be politically motivated to tarnish his image. He was acquitted of rape on December 7, 2020.

Considering CCC Affiliation

In February 2023, suspended from the MDC-T, Phugeni hinted at the possibility of joining the CCC post the 31 March 2022 by-elections, if invited. This decision stemmed from the belief that Phugeni could play a pivotal role in the new party’s establishment.
