Jah Signal, a prominent Zimdancehall artist, is known by his birth name, Nicodimus Mutize.
Jah Signal’s early life was marked by his family’s resourcefulness. His mother ingeniously repurposed used paper towels from hotels, transforming them into sellable paper rolls. This innovative approach helped sustain their community by providing an essential product.
Jah Signal was previously married to Perpe “Presh” Dlowayo. Unfortunately, their marriage endured only six months before ending in divorce. The couple shares a child. Presh publicly disclosed that Jah Signal was involved with multiple other women during their marriage, which significantly contributed to their separation.
Moreover, Presh revealed that Jah Signal contracted a sexually transmitted infection during their time together, causing discomfort and leading to the breakdown of their intimate relationship.
However, Jah Signal neither confirmed nor denied these allegations, hinting that some claims may have been misconstrued or exaggerated.
Presh resided with Jah Signal and his family in Budiriro during their marriage. Despite attempts to salvage their relationship, Presh couldn’t endure the ongoing infidelity and chose to end the marriage.
Stealing Song Lyrics
Pastor Charles Charamba, an esteemed gospel musician, expressed his disapproval of Jah Signal’s use of his “Kana Vanhu Vangu” lyrics in the popular song “Sweetie (Shinga Muroora).”
Jah Signal openly admitted that he strategically used Charamba’s lyrics to gain recognition and fame. He adopted this approach to swiftly connect with the audience and establish his presence in the music industry. This strategy was evident in his hit track “Stonyeni.”
Regarding seeking permission from Pastor Charamba, Jah Signal explained that he had released the song and gained popularity before reaching out. The contact was made after the song had already circulated widely.
Jah Signal mentioned that Pastor Charamba wasn’t fond of the way his lyrics were reinterpreted and was not aligned with the Zim dancehall genre, to which Jah Signal belongs.
