Rodney Mashandure, known by his stage name Jah Master, is a prominent figure in the Zimdancehall music scene. He has gained recognition for his unique fashion sense, distinctive vocal style, and compelling songwriting. Jah Master’s breakthrough into stardom came in the early months of 2019 with the release of his chart-topping hit, “Takasangana Mutaundi.”


Jah Master, also known as Rodney Mashandure, was born on December 20, 1996.

Personal Life

He is a married man with a son named Tichafa. However, the identity of his wife remains undisclosed.

Music Career

Before his breakthrough in 2019 with the hit track “Takasangana Mutaundi,” Jah Master had already garnered a significant following in the Zimdancehall scene as early as 2016. He had been involved in music since around 2010, but it took some time for him to achieve mainstream recognition.

In August 2020, Jah Master’s song “Hello Mwari” was featured in NashTV’s Nash Nation Riddim 3 competition, where artists had the chance to compete for a prize of US $3,000. The song quickly gained popularity, amassing an impressive 1 million views on YouTube within just two weeks.

The song “Hello Mwari” sparked a viral trend known as the “Hello Mwari Challenge” on social media, with people sharing videos of themselves lip-syncing to the song. Even popular Zimbabwean musician Jah Prayzah joined in the trend, posting a video of himself singing the song.

In an interview in March 2019, Jah Master revealed that he had an extensive catalog of over 700 songs, although he had not yet considered compiling an album.

BancABC Zimbabwe’s Brand Ambassador

In May, Jah Master was announced as the brand ambassador for BancABC Zimbabwe’s local remittance service, City Hopper. As part of this partnership, he was presented with a brand-new Toyota Allion vehicle featuring the City Hopper branding. This collaboration aimed to leverage Jah Master’s influence and popularity to promote the City Hopper service in the market.


In 2020, Jah Master made headlines for an unfortunate incident when he kicked Eric Cantona on the back of the head. The incident occurred after Cantona jumped on stage to dance, and the entire incident was captured on video, leading to widespread outrage online. Jah Master later issued a lengthy apology on Facebook, expressing his remorse for the disgraceful act.
