Barely a month after being involved in an accident which claimed the life of six students, Tynwald High School in Harare was on Tuesday robbed of more than US$5 000 cash by five unknown suspects.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the suspects attacked two security guards who were on duty at the school before stealing cash and an HP laptop.

Taking to their Twitter page, the ZRP wrote:

Police in Harare are investigating a case of robbery which occurred on 25/10/22 at Tynwald High School, Harare.

Five unknown suspects attacked two security guards who were on duty at the school before stealing a cell phone, wallet, US$5 800 cash, and an HP laptop, all valued at US$ 6 015.

Recently, the school grabbed headlines following a sad incident in which six students died.

The accident occurred when the driver of the school bus failed to negotiate a sharp curve and crashed at Pine Tree Inn close to Juliasdale in Nyanga.

According to one learner who is a survivor of the accident, the bus driver who was supposed to drive the students for the four-day trip to Nyanga was changed at the last minute.

One Uncle Chikumbu was initially supposed to drive the students until Uncle Chamu replaced him.

“It was a dark day and I am still in shock,” said the student.

“To start with, school authorities changed the driver at the last minute.

“Uncle Chamu overtook a Honda Fit, swerved and lost control of the bus and hit two stones before it overturned.

“We had warned him against speeding, but he never took heed.

“I still can’t believe that I survived that horrific accident,” he said.
