Insimbi ZeZhwane is a Zimbabwean rhumba music group based in Matabeleland that significantly impacted the local music scene. Founded by Elvis “MaEli” Mathe and Meluleki “Brema” Moyo, the group gained recognition for their unique Rhumba sound and captivating live performances.
Formation and Discography
Insimbi ZeZhwane was formed in 2015 and quickly gained popularity with its distinct style of Rhumba music. The group released a total of seven albums, including Iseqa Mgwaqo, Inhlanzi Encane, Sizalendaba, Dikidiki, Inganekwane, Impande yeMinyela, and Imbemba.
Awards and Recognition
The group’s talent and musical prowess were acknowledged through various awards and nominations. They received accolades at the Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) and were nominated for the outstanding Tshibilika/Rhumba Act and Outstanding Song of the Year categories at the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMAs).
Tragic Accident and Loss
Tragedy struck Insimbi ZeZhwane on August 5th when a fatal road accident claimed the lives of two of its members. Elvis “MaEli” Mathe, the band’s founder and lead vocalist, and Thembinkosi Mpofu, also known as Mviri, lost their lives in the accident. The band was travelling from Binga to Harare via Bulawayo when their vehicle experienced a burst tire, causing it to veer off the road and collide with a tree.
Impact and Legacy
The untimely deaths of “MaEli” and “Mviri” left a deep void in the music community and the hearts of their devoted fans. Insimbi ZeZhwane’s unique Rhumba sound and captivating performances made them one of the most sought-after bands in Matabeleland and the Bulawayo region. Burial arrangements for the deceased members will be announced in due course as the music community mourns the loss of these talented individuals.
