Gemma Griffiths is a Zimbabwean musician based in Cape Town, South Africa. Apart from her music career, she is also involved in various other artistic pursuits, including ballroom and ballet dancing, painting, and playing the piano.

Early Recognition

Gemma gained recognition in the Zimbabwean music scene when she delivered a moving rendition of Winky D’s hit song “Musarova Bigman” in 2016, incorporating both Shona and English elements.

Not much about Gemma’s personal life can be found on the internet as she has managed to keep it under wraps while focusing on her musical career. However, two years ago, a local publication reported that she had celebrated her 27th birthday, which means in 2023, Gemma will be 29 years old.

Gemma attended Chisipite Senior School for her high school education. Later, she pursued further studies in the United States, earning a degree in commercial music composition.

Musical Career

Gemma comes from a family with a strong musical background. During an interview with radio presenter KVG, she revealed that her mother and grandmother possess strong singing skills, while her grandfather and uncle both have a knack for playing musical instruments. With such a musical lineage, Gemma had a solid foundation for her own career.

Over the years, Gemma has performed alongside notable South African artists such as Jimmy Nevis, Majozi, Goodluck, Freshly Ground, and Matthew Mole. Despite being based in Cape Town, she has maintained close ties with Zimbabwean musicians.

Regularly returning to Zimbabwe, Gemma showcases her music at festivals such as HIFA, Miombo Magic, and Shoko Festival.

In 2018, Gemma debuted her first EP, which included four tracks, such as “My Town” and “Musarova Bigman”. The EP was introduced to audiences in Harare, Cape Town, and London, where her music was warmly received, leading her to gain a significant following in these regions.

Gemma Griffiths has been cautious about revealing the identity of her boyfriend. Although she has been romantically linked with renowned musicians from Zimbabwe, such as Jah Prayzah, she has not officially confirmed any of these speculations.

A few years ago, Gemma collaborated with Winky D on the chart-topping hit “MuGarden,” which fueled rumors of a romantic relationship between them. However, if Gemma is currently involved with someone, she seems to be keeping it under wraps.
