Omphile Marupi was born on September 18, 1971.

Education

Marupi earned a Doctor of Philosophy in English and Comparative Literature from Fort Hare University in South Africa. His academic achievements also include a Master of Science in Strategic Communication from the National University of Science and Technology (Nust), a Master of Arts in African Languages and Culture, a postgraduate degree in Higher and Tertiary Education, a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Language Studies, and a Bachelor of Arts Special Honours in Communication and Media Studies.

He did his primary education at Buvuma and Bethel Primary Schools in Gwanda District. Marupi continued his studies at Zezani Secondary School in Beitbridge District for his Ordinary level and completed his A-level education at Tennyson Hlabangana High School.

Career

Dr. Marupi made a name for himself as a broadcaster, commencing his career with the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) in 2000. Over the years, he demonstrated his abilities and progressed within the organization, eventually assuming the position of Head of Montrose Studios in Bulawayo.

Political Career

On February 3, 2024, Dr. Marupi was appointed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to serve as the Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services. It is worth noting that despite winning the Zanu-PF primary elections in 2018, Dr Marupi was replaced by Abedinico Ncube as the Zanu-PF parliamentary candidate for the Gwanda South constituency.
