Desmond Chideme, better known by his stage name Stunner, is a Zimbabwean hip-hop artist who rose to fame as one of the early pioneers of the Urban Grooves music movement (also known as Afrobeats) in Zimbabwe. Born on May 11, 1980, in Gweru, Zimbabwe, Stunner gained widespread recognition during the early 2000s as the genre began to gain prominence in the entertainment industry.

Stunner’s Career: A Pioneer of Urban Grooves

Stunner is considered one of the pioneering figures of the “Urban Grooves” music genre in Zimbabwe, alongside his peers Roki, Leonard Mapfumo, Jamal, Betty Makaya, Maskiri, and Extra Large. The rise of Stunner’s music career coincided with the genre’s growing popularity during that period, as the new sound began to capture the attention of audiences across the country.

During the emergence of the “Urban Grooves” genre, local radio stations such as Power FM and Star FM played a crucial role in its success. They were operating under the 75% local content initiative introduced by Jonathan Moyo, the then-head of the Ministry of Information and Publicity, to promote local music. Stunner’s popularity grew as some of his songs began to top the charts on local competitions such as the Power FM Top 20 show, which aired every Saturday afternoon.

Stunner’s breakthrough into the mainstream Zimbabwean music scene came with the release of his hit songs “Team Hombe” and “Dhafu Korera”. Apart from being a successful musician, Stunner is also a record label owner. He founded “Tazoita Ca$h Records”, which has signed talented artists such as Shastro, Junior Brown, and MC Chita.

Desmond Stunner Chideme Personal Life: Controversies and Relationships

Stunner’s popularity skyrocketed even further when a sex tape featuring him and his then-girlfriend Pokello Nare was leaked to the public. The video went viral on the internet, and both Stunner and Pokello were subjected to a lot of insults and criticism. Stunner maintained that he had nothing to do with the leak and speculated that it may have occurred when his phone was lost. He refrained from blaming Pokello directly for the incident.

In April 2016, Stunner fulfilled traditional marriage customs and paid the bride price for Olinda Chapel. However, they later got divorced amidst allegations that he had been unfaithful to her. Olinda Chapel posted a video on social media in which she alleged that Stunner had been unfaithful to her and that she was considering taking her own life. She also disclosed that she had been financing Stunner’s extravagant lifestyle.

On 12 April 2022, Stunner was summoned to court on allegations of physical abuse following an accusation by his wife Dyonne Tafirenyika that he had assaulted her while trying to gain access to her phone. Stunner was charged with physical abuse but denied the accusations and was represented by his lawyer Mr. Dumisani Mthombeni. The court ruled that Dyonne Tafirenyika’s evidence to support her claim that she was assaulted by Stunner was weak to the extent that a reasonable court would not convict him.

Pictures of a young lady who is alleged to be Desmond “Stunner” Chideme’s new girlfriend have been circulating on social media. Zimcelebs took to their Instagram page and wrote: “Since Mdara Dziva has been found innocent, we would like to introduce you all to the New Mai Dziva .. Sis Is Hot, Hotter, Hottest. This is an upgrade.”
