This is the biography of Charles Tutorial Munganasa a Zimbabwean politician and filmmaker. He is a member of ZANU-PF and currently serves as the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), a position he was appointed to on 7 May 2024.

Education

Charles Tutorial Munganasa earned a Master’s degree in Journalism and Digital Media Studies from Great Zimbabwe University (GZU), equipping him with a strong foundation in media and communications.

Political Career

As a dedicated member of the ZANU-PF party, Munganasa has been actively involved in political administration. He serves as the secretary for administration in the Masvingo province’s youth league. In August 2022, he notably directed the Masvingo City Council to prevent the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) from organizing a rally at Mucheke Stadium, invoking the Local Government Act.

Career in Filmmaking

Charles Munganasa has significantly impacted the Zimbabwean film industry. His roles as a producer include notable films like Solo na Mutsai (2017), The Story of Nehanda (2021), and Gonarezhou: The Movie (2020). Beyond production, Munganasa has also showcased his writing prowess. He authored the award-winning play Operation Restore Regasi, a comedic interpretation of the final days of former President Robert Mugabe’s rule. In 2024, he adapted Ray Cooney’s British play Funny Money into Mari yaVaChivhayo, infusing it with Zimbabwean flavor and addressing contemporary issues through the story of John Chivhayo, a civil servant who stumbles upon a fortune.

Appointment as ZBC Acting CEO

In January 2024, Munganasa was appointed to the seven-member board of directors for the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), under the leadership of former CEO Helliate Rushwaya. By May 7, 2024, he stepped into the role of acting CEO, succeeding Assael Machakata, who had temporarily held the position following Adelaide Chikunguru’s suspension in February.
