Personal Life
Nyepudzai Bona Mugabe is the only daughter of the late Zimbabwean politician and former president, Robert Mugabe, and former First Lady, Grace Mugabe. She was named after Robert Mugabe’s mother and has two younger siblings, Robert Mugabe Junior and Chatunga Mugabe. She also has an older half-brother, Russell Goreraza, from her mother’s previous marriage.
Marriage And Wedding
Nyepudzai Bona Mugabe got married to Simba Chikore on 1 March 2014 in Harare. Their union was celebrated with a traditional marriage ceremony at her rural home in Zvimba in August 2013. The bride price for the customary marriage was reported to be over US $35,000.
The couple’s formal wedding ceremony on 1 March 2014 was attended by various foreign dignitaries, including South African President Jacob Zuma, Zambia’s Michael Sata and his wife Joyce, and Equatorial Guinea’s Head of State, Teodoro Obiang. Congolese musician Kofi Olomide performed at the event.
Reports suggest that Bona Mugabe and Simba Chikore received gifts valued at close to US $3 million, including a generous gift of US$150,000 and 150 head of cattle from Robert Mugabe.
Education
Bona attended Dominican Convent Primary School and Dominican Convent High School for her primary and secondary education. She pursued her tertiary education at the City University of Hong Kong, China, where she earned a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) degree in 2011. Later, she furthered her studies in banking and finance in Singapore, graduating with a Master of Science degree in Banking from the Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS).
Divorce
In March 2023, Bona Mugabe filed for divorce from Simba Chikore, citing a total breakdown in their relationship with no prospects for reconciliation. According to court documents, they had been living separately for over nine months. The couple, who married on 1 March 2014, has three children aged seven, five, and two. Bona is seeking monthly child maintenance of US$2,700 per child.
